David's Story
Siobhan and me Siobhan and me

Hello my name is David I am 22 years old.

I have been treated at  Addenbrooke's Hospital  since just before I was three years old. I was diagnosed with a brain tumour and underwent the associated operations and chemotherapy.

I had a long spell of being fine and free of the problem. Then when I was nine I had a relapse which meant further surgery and then at the age of thirteen another relapse, this time I underwent further surgery followed by a course of radiotherapy.

Throughout all of the treatment I under went, I was cared for by the wonderful staff at  Addenbrooke's Hospital on ward C2 and the paediatric oncology staff.

It was only through my latest incident that I came into personal contact with organisations such as  CLIC Sargent  and the  Teenage Cancer Trust.

After a brain haemorrhage, on the first day of my GCSE mock exams, I was taken into hospital where I spent the best part of two months laying on my back not being able to move my head or neck.

It was during my recovery from this that I heard of the work that the  Teenage Cancer Trust  were doing with teenagers and young adults that have or have had cancer I was offered a place on one of their "find your sense of tumour" weekend breaks where I met lots of good friends like  Hannah and  Richard.

The story of how I came to meet Olly is all thanks to  CLIC Sargent ; it was a fairly cold and quite painful one at that!

I met Olly at one of the events that had been organised by  CLIC Sargent  at an ice-skating ring in Norwich in January 2007.

I spent most of my time either flying through the air or in a big heap on the floor.

Olly seemed to be doing a lot better and finding my attempts hilarious, it was a great day, bruises and all.

After the ice-skating in Norwich I was invited to the next  Teenage Cancer Trust  "find your sense of tumour" weekend where me, Olly, Hannah and Richard had a great time.

We have all kept in contact and met up at events that  CLIC Sargent have organised such as the "Wildtracks" adventure days, picnics and not forgetting the high wire "Go Ape" course in Thetford forest.

Without  CLIC Sargent and the  Teenage Cancer Trust  I would not have found the support and good friendship of so many amazing people.
